National Parks are being overwhelmed with tourists and there is a willingness to visit national parks anywhere.  There is also a big desire for a national park in Iowa, but it isn’t realistic to dedicate Iowa farmland to a national park.  However, we have a problem with our rivers.  They need help.  There waters are in tragic condition.  Making the Iowa river system a national park would would help a great deal in cleaning our rivers and would create corridors of wildness throughout the state.  Also, this national park would  be near everyone in Iowa.  I would also enable many people to restore wildlife to all areas of the state.  In other words it would solve a lot of problems in Iowa and bring a national park to Iowa that would be unique and meaningful.  It would acquaint.  The nation with the full river story and bring an important part of our state to everyone’s attention.

Lyle, this is intriguing to me. Say more about what this would look like, in your estimation. Would water trails (for paddlers) be a part of this? Would you see it modeled after the “national wild and scenic rivers” designation?
